Some good news for our stressed education system (and teachers!)
Immigration NZ has changed residence eligibility rules which, from 26 March 2025, allow primary school teachers on visas to have a straight to residence pathway.
This means that if you’re an offshore (or onshore) primary school teacher, as soon as you receive a job offer and are eligible, you can apply for residence.
To be Eligible you need to:
- be a registered teacher in New Zealand and hold a practising certificate as a teacher.
- have a job or job offer that pays at least $31.61.
- work as a primary, intermediate, or Māori-medium primary teacher
