Good changes ahead for partners of Work Visa holders

Immigration NZ have announced that, from 2nd December, many partners of Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) holders will be able to apply to get open work visas.

This is a shift from the May 2023 policy, which restricted partner work visas by requiring partners to work only for accredited employers and to earn at least the median wage of $29.66 per hour.

Who’s Eligible

  • Partners of AEWV holders in ANZSCO Level 1-3 occupations who are earning at least $25.29 p/hour
  • Partners of AEWV holders, if they already held, or were supporting, their partner for a visa on 26th June 2024.

Not Eligible

  • Partners of those AEWV holders earning less than $25.29 will not be eligible.
  • Partners of those who hold ANZSCO Level 4-5 occupations, but have not yet supported their partners for a visa may not be eligible
  • Those who can’t prove they are in a genuine relationship, living together, and have financial commitments to one another

INZ has made the announcement but net yet provided the full immigration instructions with process and cost details. Once these are released, we will know what is involved in the application process as it will require an application to Immigration NZ to have the conditions removed from the current visa.

Please CONTACT US HERE to ask questions and to make sure that your application is submission ready and front of queue on 2 December.
