On 7 April, Immigration New Zealand announced changes designed to
- contain migration,
- prioritise Kiwi workers where suitable/available and
- refocus on those with qualifications or skills that are seen as more necessary for New Zealand needs at the moment.
The outcome is varying visa eligibility and duration set out by ANZSCO roles and levels with those at level 4-5 having to prove 3+ years experience, and pass an English language test to be granted visas which will have a 2 year duration.
Additionally, WINZ engagement, expanded labour test duration and declarations have been added to the Job Check process.
