Assess Your Path to a Resident Visa
If you’re working in a skilled job, you may be eligible for residence under different pathways. Your eligibility depends on your role, salary and work experience.
Skilled Migrant Resident (SMR) visa
- Requires working in a Green List role with sufficient time and experience.
Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) visa
- Requires you meet the points threshhold to be able to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for residence. Points can be claimed for:
- Qualifications
- Years of skilled work experience in New Zealand (title, job description and earning the skilled wage rate wage)
- Earning 1.5x or more above the median wage

Why a Residence Visa Pathway Assessment is Crucial
Your residence eligibility depends on your personal situation and INZ’s array of rules. To avoid risks, engage with a FRENZ Licensed immigration Adviser, who will apply their experience and expertise for:
- A detailed review of your situation
- Clarity on current eligibility
- Guidance on improving future eligibility
- A follow-up session to discuss options & answer questions.
INZ will also look at:
- Accredited Employer Work Visa (with exceptions)
- Personal characteristics (<55 age at application)
- Work experience
- Salary
- Health
- Character
- English language
